Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (I-ME) joined a bipartisan group of 47 Senators in introducing legislation to award Congressional Gold Medals to Katherine Johnson and Dr. Christine Darden and to posthumously award Congressional Gold Medals to Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson. The bill serves to commend these women for their contributions to NASA’s success during the Space Race and highlight their broader impact on society, paving the way for women, especially women of color, in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Legislation to Strengthen National Defense Heads to President’s Desk with Provisions Championed by Senator Collins

Washington, D.C. — By an overwhelming bipartisan majority of 87-10, the Senate passed legislation today that will strengthen our national defense and support our men and women in uniform.  U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a senior member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, voted in favor of the bill.  The bill now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

Bill Led by Senator Collins to Fund Key Transportation and Housing Programs Passes Senate

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Subcommittee, announced today that the Senate passed the fiscal year (FY) 2019 THUD appropriations bill she co-authored with Senator Jack Reed (D-RI).  The bill was advanced by a vote of 92-6 and was the seventh bipartisan Appropriations bill passed by the Senate this year.  These bills must now be conferenced with legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Major Victory for Maine Maple Syrup and Honey Producers Secured by Senator Collins

Washington, D.C.—In a significant win for Maine’s maple syrup and honey producers, an amendment authored by U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) to prevent a confusing labeling requirement from going into effect was included in the appropriations minibus that passed the Senate today by a vote of 92 to 6.  If the FDA’s labeling requirement is allowed to move forward, it could have a devastating impact on Mainers who are employed in the maple syrup and honey industries.
