Senators Collins, King Join Bipartisan Group in Effort to Provide Financial Relief for Farmers Amid COVID-19

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King joined a bipartisan group of Senators in sending letters urging the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide financial relief and direct payments to farmers who have suffered from losses amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The recently-passedCoronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act made $9.5 billion available for USDA to provide support for agricultural producers who are struggling because of the COVID-19 pandemic.



Senators Collins, King Announce Nearly $11 Million to Support Maine Child Care Providers Amid COVID-19

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the State of Maine has been awarded $10,953,470 to provide child care assistance for low-income families,health care sector employees, first responders, sanitation workers, and other workers deemed essential, and to support child care providers. This funding, authorized by the CARES Act they voted for, was awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families’ Child Care and Development Block Grant program.


Paycheck Protection Program Loans Reach $2.22 Billion for 16,196 Maine Small Employers

Across the country, more than one million small employers have been approved for PPP loans


Washington, D.C.— U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced today that $2.22 billion in forgivable Paycheck Protection Program loans have been approved for 16,196 small employers in Maine.  Nearly 100 different Maine lending institutions are currently participating in the program and working around the clock to disburse this funding as quickly as possible. 



Senator Collins Appointed to Bipartisan Presidential Task Force Focused on How to Safely Re-Open the U.S. Economy

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Health Committee, was appointed by President Trump to serve on a COVID-19 Task Force comprised of a bipartisan group of Senators and Members of the House of Representatives.  The purpose of the Economic Recovery Initiative is to provide counsel to the President on how to safely re-open the American economy.  



Senator Collins’ Statement on Androscoggin Mill Explosion

Bangor, ME—U.S. Senator Susan Collins issued this statement on the explosion that occurred at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay today:


“I am praying for the safety of the workers at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay as well as all of those who were in the vicinity of the explosion. I thank all of the brave first responders who have rushed to the scene to assist.  The extent of the damage isn't yet clear, but we do know that our neighbors in the community of Jay and the surrounding areas need our support.”
