Major Victory for Maine Maple Syrup and Honey Producers Secured by Senator Collins

Washington, D.C.—In a significant win for Maine’s maple syrup and honey producers, an amendment authored by U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) to prevent a confusing labeling requirement from going into effect was included in the appropriations minibus that passed the Senate today by a vote of 92 to 6.  If the FDA’s labeling requirement is allowed to move forward, it could have a devastating impact on Mainers who are employed in the maple syrup and honey industries.

Senate Passes Collins, King Resolution to Designate September 25, 2018 as National Lobster Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Angus King (I-Maine) to designate September 25, 2018, as “National Lobster Day” unanimously passed the Senate. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Edward Markey (D-Mass.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) also sponsored the resolution, which recognizes the historic and economic importance of lobster in the United States.
