U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today praised the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) announcement that many veterans living in and around Caribou will soon be able to begin receiving expanded health care at Cary Medical Center. Under a program known as Project ARCH, Togus VA Hospital will oversee treatment provided to veterans at Cary Medical Center—while allowing veterans in Aroostook County to receive quality primary care, secondary care or acute care closer to home.

“We have an obligation to provide quality health care for Maine’s veterans who have given so much to this country,” said Senator Collins, who has consistently advocated for improved access to adequate health care for those veterans who live in rural areas. “This unique program will help reduce the need for veterans in and around Caribou to travel long distances to receive quality medical care—allowing more veterans to access health care when and where they need it.”

Caribou is one of five pilot sites that the VA is establishing across the country. Others are Farmville, VA, Pratt, KS, Flagstaff, AZ, and Billings, MT. For more information on Project ARCH, go to
